Many parents use mobiles, bright, stimulating colours in the nursery, or rotating coloured lights that stencil and light the walls to lullaby tunes and nursery rhymes. But as distractions are such novelties condusive to sleep? And more importantly do such novelties help create an optimal sleeping environment for your infant?

To create the ideal sleeping enviroment for your baby, make sure that your crib conforms to all current safety standard guidelines. Ensure that you have a good, firm mattress. Try to stay to softer pastel colours schemes such as blues, greens, pinks and yellows which are considered by most to be more restful.

Make sure the bedding and the entire room is clean and fresh. In your baby's first year, a quilt or comforter should only be used for decoration. Specially made quilt clips are available to hang your baby quilt on the nursery wall for added decoration.

Your baby's crib should be unobstructed by blankets, pillows or sheets, allowing their face to be clear at all times, removing any danger of breathing obstruction.

Keep stuffed animals and other toys out of your infants bed until your baby is older.

Make the room a pleasant one. If you use a scent, like lavender, keep it light. Nothing overpowering.

Consider using nursery murals to decorate and add life to your nursery wallls that provide baby with restful images to look at as eyes begin to close and baby falls soundly to sleep.

Keep your nursery as dust-free as possible to avoid sneezing and stuffy noses as well as any allergies that your baby may have. Your nursery should feel like a safe and cozy place that your baby associates with restfulness, security, warm, and comfort.

To be certain that your child is sleeping comfortably when you leave the room, purchasing a baby monitor will enable you to hear your baby throughout the night. Many modern baby monitors also provide a video link allowing you to not only hear your baby but see your baby as they sleep.

At Stokke.com, you can actually design, and create the colour scheme for your nursery and view the layout in real-time allowing you to plan for your baby's homecoming.
